ABOUT THIS COFFEE

Don Enrique Puentes has been farming coffee in the village of El Diviso near the town Pitalito, Huila for more than 50 years on his five hectare farm. Over the years he has continued to improve his farming methods and now grows three varieties of arabica (Castillo, Colombia and Tabi) that enjoy the soil and climate of this region. Coffee grown on his farm is harvested, washed and fermented for 18 hours then sun dried to produce an excellent cup that reflects the finest flavor profile from the region. 

The Huila department has largest volume of coffee production in Colombia with 154,980 hectares of land dedicated to the crop. Huila has held first place in coffee volume in Colombia since 2008 and has surpassed the production of traditional coffee regions such as Antioquia and the Central Valley. Production for 2017 it exceeded 2.8 million 70 kg bags. Huila has around 96,000 family coffee farms with an average size of 1.5 hectares.  

In recent years specialty coffees have taken on greater importance in the industry, and Huila has also become one of the first departments in Colombia to pioneer in specialty coffee production. Coffee growers have developed new processes of cultivation and have produced crops worthy of national and international awards.
